Sunshine and castles

Lots of walking was planned for what felt like our first ‘full’ day in Falmouth after the slightly later start to the previous day.  We were blessed with sunshine and clear skies as we headed out.  Our destination was Pendennis Point and ultimately Pendennis Castle that dominates this headland overlooking Falmouth Harbour.  The walk up to the point afforded us great views of the harbour to our left.  There were two very large Royal Navy...

I see no ships!

Team GB arrived in Falmouth for our holiday the night before.  After a slight delay because of an accident just outside Yeovil, we finally arrived just after 9pm.  This morning when we awoke after a slight lay in and sorting out cases, we were raring to go.  I had a little scout about and found a number of handy amenities on our door step.  Our apartment was very nice and comfortable and only a very short walk to Discovery Quay that was home to...

Another Holkham walk!

Another Holkham walk!

Two weeks after our visit to Holkham we returned to walk along the beach to Burnham. Did we ever say what a favourite spot Holkham is for Team GB?? What started out as quite a cool breeze soon developed into warm sunshine as we headed west along the beach. This probably going to sound like quite a boring post as we just walked along the beach watching horses ride past and picking out shells. As we started getting good weather it was just great...

Easter at Holkham

James & Kate, Rabbart, Bygones, Walled Garden, Hall, Playground, Chinese and video games. Today was the annual Team GB trip to Holkham Hall on the Easter weekend and this year we were accompanied by James and Kat. We arrived more or less at the same time as James and Kate and immediately headed for the Bygone Hall brandishing our tickets as we entered! Its a...

At Leith we got to see the boat…

More walking was the order of the day today as we decided amidst an air of indecision to walk to Leith out by the Forth of Firth.  Its the place were the old HMS Brittania royal yacht is moored and we decided to treat ourselves with a cooked breakfast at the hotel before setting out.  We were again blessed with nice weather and the walk from the hotel to Leith took about an hour walking at a leisurely pace.  Parts of it were not particularly...

Up and down the Royal Mile!

Our first full day in Edinburgh and it was going to involve a reasonable amount of walking as we decided to walk up and down the Royal Mile. We were up and out reasonably earlier so much so that we decided to miss breakfast at the hotel and get out as soon as. We were blessed with warm sunshine and lots of blue sky so we wanted to be out in it as much as possible… We stopped for coffee as we neared the bottom of the mile and the busy tourist...

First day in Edinburgh

The start of our break in Edinburgh was a lovely trip up on the train.  After a change at Peterborough we picked up the Edinburgh train from London and had a lovely relaxing three and a half hour journey.  The train was very comfortable and we got breakfast, lunch and complimentary drinks.  It made a great start and certainly far more enjoyable than flying or driving!!  We arrived just before 1.30. A short walk to the hotel, quick change and...
