London here we come…

Marathon weekend came round very quickly with Team GBs star athlete ready to take part. This marathon seemed to hold more significance than usual after the events of the weekend before in Boston. London had immediately said the event would go ahead to show solidarity and support for Boston and there were people running that had run the weekend before. If ever there was a sign of human spirit, for me this was it.

We arrived at the hotel in Docklands just after midday and after unpacking headed straight out into the sunshine. It was going to be a lovely weekend weather wise which would prove all more enjoyable as we would be spending much of it outside. First stop was Excel where Reenie had to collect her race pack including her number patch. It was throng of activity inside (and rather warm) as there was not only the Marathon organisers but also a Strategy Wargamers convention. That did create a very diverse group of people it has to be said…

We managed to get everything collected very quickly and within 30 minutes or so we were back out in the sunshine. A brief drop off kit at the hotel and we headed back towards Emirate Air. This is the cable car that runs from west of Excel across the Thames to the O2 park. We decided to head over to take in the sights and have a look round O2 before having a late lunch / early dinner. The journey over was great and taking about 10 minutes gave splendid views of Canary Wharf and Docklands.

After landing and a wander about we headed to an old Team GB favourite, Wagamamas. By this time, food was much needed by all as we had all only eaten breakfast. The littlies were enjoying themselves on their first visit to London. There is obviously so much more to show them but for a first visit they loved it. After food and a stroll we headed back to the cable car and then back to the hotel.

A couple of drinks in the hotel bar we were all ready for some sleep. Tomorrow was going to be a long day…and very tiring for one of us…
